As a parent, it’s difficult when your little one isn’t feeling their best. Trying to figure out what’s wrong is also very difficult, is it just a cold? Is it allergies?
Kids can be dramatic about things from time to time, but when things start acting a little bit too dramatic, it might be a sign of analogy. If you’ve noticed any of the signs below, it could be time to explore allergy testing and figure out what’s bugging your kiddo.

- Constant Sneezing and a Runny Nose. Sneezing – the classic allergy sign. One minute you’re getting them ready for school, and suddenly, it’s like a sneezing contest with no present at the end. If your child starts sneezing nonstop and wiping their nose all day long, they might be dealing with allergies and not a cold. Seasonal allergies like pollen or pet dander can cause the body to overreact, making it seem like it’s their job. If you’ve tried the usual remedies, and the sneezing continues, it might be time to talk to your pediatrician about types of allergy testing. Tests like skin prick tests, or blood tests, can help to figure out exactly what’s triggering their sneezes.
- Itchy, Watery Eyes (and Not from Watching Too Much TV). Kids can get teary eyed from a sad movie often when they’re overly tired, but if your child’s eyes seem to water and it’s all the time, allergies could be to blame. Whether it’s pollen or dust or a food allergy, allergies can cause the eyes to react in a way that makes your child look like they’ve been up all night at a sleepover. If they’re making their eyes sore from constantly rubbing it in complaining about them being scratchy, it could be time to consider allergies.
- Skin Reactions: Rashes, Hives, or Eczema. Have you noticed your child scratching at their skin more than usual? If it’s starting to look more patchy, or they’re breaking out in hives, especially after eating certain foods or touching something, allergies could be the culprit. Some kids react to things that they eat, like peanuts, dairy, or eggs. They may even react to things that they touch, like certain soaps, plants, or fabrics. If their skin has started to act up, it’s time to check in with the doctor.
- Stomach Troubles: Upset Tummy or Diarrhea. Did you know that allergies can mess with your kids’ tummy? If your child has frequent tummy aches, diarrhea, or cramps, it could be a food allergy that’s the culprit. Common offenders include dairy, gluten, and nuts. Sometimes, it can be hard to pinpoint because stomach issues can be caused by other things. It’s always worth double checking.
Figuring out if your kid has allergies can be tricky. The good news? Allergy testing can help identify exactly what your little one is allergic to, and once you know, you can take steps to help them feel better. So, if you’re seeing any of these signs, don’t hesitate to get your child checked out by a doctor, and hopefully, you can kick those allergies to the curb.
