Sometimes we have to go against what others tell us and figure things out on our own. This is exactly what one fearful little boy does in Nawal Nader’s new book, The Bargfrosh Boy. His natural curiosity gets to him and he ventures out to look for the wild Froy, against his mother’s wishes.
The little Bargfrosh Boy braves the elements in search of the wild Froy and faces many little scares along the way. He is forced to push forward despite his fears and teaches us that it is possible to function in these types of situations. He teaches us to trust fate and that you can’t live in fear of the unknown.
I like to let my daughter make her own mistakes (within reason) because it’s a great way to learn. For example, we need to pay attention to where our fingers are when we are closing a drawer. If they are between the drawer and the cupboard, we will smash our fingers when the drawer closes. She now knows by trial and error that she needs to be mindful of where her fingers are when she closes a drawer. If I am constantly telling her not to do things without letting her learn on her own, she’ll never figure it out. Much like the Bargfrosh Boy, my little Charlee-bug is a curious one.
The Bargrosh Boy is a great read for little ones of all ages (and parents, too). It’s a fun one to read aloud because of the whimsical rhymes. My daughter loves the “baby monster” in the story and actually sits through the whole book. The illustrations really help us understand why the Bargfrosh Boy is fearful and shows us the challenges he faces.
