Staying Fashionable After Kids

The body you end up with postpartum is a tricky situation to be in. Because you are in between what you were before you were pregnant and during pregnancy. Therefore, you do not want to go too crazy with clothes purchase after the pregnancy ends, since, you will most likely go back to being what you were before it all began. Remember, it takes time for the stomach and the rest of the body, to go back to anything close to what it was before the pregnancy, at least a few months, depending on how you treat yourself. Another surprise will be your feet size, which will also get bigger and stay big! The following are some simple ideas to stay fashionable after kids.

Start With Accessories

Sure, nice looking clothes can be flattering, but don’t forget that sometimes all it takes are some simple accessories to look nice. Accessories are the easiest way to divert attention. Putting on a nice necklace or headband is not only easy; it will go a long way to making you look more appealing. When choosing a necklace, find one that is on the long side, because it will help you look slimmer. This also applies to earrings. Another great accessory is scarves. As with necklaces, find one that is long enough to reach your waist. Even getting a pair of shoes that will make you look a little taller is a step in the right direction. It’s amazing how small additions to your wardrobe can really make your outfit look great

Looking smaller is the goal since you are more likely to put on weight after having kids, plan on buying clothes that will not make you look bulky. Sweatpants, for example, are a favorite item for mothers. The only problem is that they will make you look bigger than you are. Other clothes that need to be avoided are clothes with large prints. If possible, stay with leggings and T-shirt type dresses.  You can even consider wearing shapewear. Shapewear is an excellent way to keep the body leaner and tighter looking. The idea here is to take a minimalistic approach to clothing. Go for clothes that have few pleats and do not have a noticeable silhouette. On the other hand, choose a fabric that does not cling to the body too much, especially items like sweaters. Let it hang gracefully over the body. • Mid-size jeans, preferably dark in color
• Tank tops
• Cardigans
• Turtlenecks

The Rental Option

Don’t forget, there is always the option to rent clothes. For those of you, who are planning on losing a lot of weight, may want to consider this. Some businesses specialize in clothes rentals. For people who are not interested in purchasing clothes, especially the more expensive variety, this is an excellent option. The in-between phase can be as short as a few weeks, therefore, who wants to buy new clothes for that?

Time Management

If you have an extensive wardrobe full of clothes, you may never wear, then it may be time to start ditching those clothes. It will only add to the confusion and dilemma that comes with getting dressed in the morning. After kids arrive, you won’t have the time like you used to, to get dressed and ready in the morning. As you are hurrying out the door to get to work, you will want to only keep the clothes you know for sure that will help you look fashionable and attractive. Therefore, time to slim down the closet and keep it simple.
