As a kid, I remember playing with sparklers on the fourth of July; but I also remember being deathly afraid of them, too. Although, having a dad who was a firefighter growing up, I felt much safer around fireworks. Now that I have kids of my own, I’m not a big fan of fire in my kids hands, but these DIY dried flower poppers are perfect for them.

I thought I would put to use some of my push pop containers that I used for my first daughter’s first birthday party years ago. Some of you might remember my pool party push-up cake pops from my DIY Pool Party blog post, which were a huge hit at the party. Since the containers are washable and reusable, I’ve been hanging onto them for a special project.

Eco-Friendly Dried Flower Confetti Poppers for Kids

Since the thermometer has pushing up to 106° these days here in California, indoor crafts are a must this summer break. My little ones can help put these super easy push-up confetti poppers together, so it made for a great time filler between naps.

You’ll Need:

Push Pop Containers with Lids (link on Amazon)
Dried flower petals (any colors)
Glue Stick
Themed stickers or paper cutouts (see below)

How to Assemble:

First, you will need to make sure your flower petals are dry. Dried flower petals fly better than fresh ones. I happen to have white Agapanthus plants and red canna lilies in my backyard, so I just used those petals for my fourth of July poppers.
Remove the lid from your confetti popper and stuff with a mixture of dried petals.
Replace your lid.
Decorate with stickers or paper cutouts.

How to Use:

Hold confetti popper base in one hand.
Using the palm of your hand, hit the push-up stick like you are serving a volleyball. The point is to push it out as quickly as possible.
Kids might like slamming the push-up stick on the ground or on a table, rather than their hand.
