Three Educational Children’s Books to Add to Your Child’s Collection (Books by Nancy Guettier)

With all of this talk about ‘going green’ and saving the trees, lots of people are converting to Kindles, Nooks and other eReaders to enjoy their daily reads.  Even their children’s book have gone electronic.  To be honest, I am not a huge fan of eBooks.  There’s just something about a real book – the smell, the feel, the wind you feel hit your face when turning a page… that just can’t be replaced by an eBook.  Sorry, eBook fans!

Aside from all of the reasons I stated above, I love children’s books because they usually have fun illustrations with vibrant colors. Illustrations that spark the imagination and inspire children.  I recently connected with a local author, Nancy Guettier of Nancyland Books, about reviewing three of her children’s books:  Circus in the Sky, ROY G. BIV is Mad at Me Because I Love Pink! and Mermaids on Mars and wanted to share my thoughts.

Circus In The Sky is a beautifully illustrated book of the constellations told in a poetic style, through the eyes of a little boy who believes he is the ring master of the night sky. Circus In The Sky is so magical it will inspire parents and kids to want to learn more of the sky and it’s wonders.

My daughter loves Circus In The Sky because she, too, has stars on her ceiling.  Every night when we tuck her into bed we click on her pillow pet starry night light that projects a moon and the stars onto her ceiling.  She cannot go to sleep unless the moon is visible.  I sometimes wonder what she thinks about when falling asleep while staring at the moon and stars.  Perhaps she dreams about being in a circus in the sky, like Julian in the book.

Mermaids On Mars is a sweet tale that educates children on the importance of water conservation. Beautifully illustrated and simple to follow the rules the mermaids want to share with children all over the world on the importance of water conservation with simple things they can do to help save this precious resource.

This story is one my family can definitely benefit from and relate to.  We are in the process of potty training right now and naturally, flushing the potty is fun for my daughter.  This book helps explain that we don’t need to excessively waste water when going potty or when brushing our teeth.  My daughter is also into the Little Mermaid right now so she thinks the mermaids are like “Ariel.”  We love the bright colors and whimsical illustrations in this book.

Roy G. Biv is Mad at Me because I Love Pink! is an educational and playful story about learning of the colors of the Rainbow. Roy G Biv is an acronym for the sequence of the hues in the rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet.

The little girl in the story, Genevieve, is obsessed with pink just like many girls her age.  She is absolutely opposed to loving any other color until Roy G. Biv (the rainbow) shows her just how beautiful the other colors can be.  She is resistant to liking other colors throughout the entire book until the very end.  This is such a cute story that teaches the colors of the rainbow!
