Okay, I admit it. I’m horrible at french braiding. I literally had no idea how to french braid until a couple of years ago and I still don’t have it down just right. As frustrated as I get with it, though, I still love to sit with my oldest daughter and practice on her hair. I cherish the one-on-one time I get to spend with her and love asking her questions that really get her thinking.
Tonight, after I put the baby to bed, I sat with Charlotte and practiced some new hairstyles on her. I admit that I googled ‘styling tips for long hair’ in an effort to freshen my repertoire of hair styles. While I did find some great tips and styling tutorials, none of them would’ve worked without the bundle of styling products we used.
In my article about dodging morning meltdowns, I talked about the SoCozy 2in1 shampoo+wash and the amazing detangling spray. Since writing that article, we have also gone to Target and picked up the SoCozy conditioner and styling cream because Charlotte’s hair needed some help. After using the products for about a month, we are so happy with how her hair looks and feels. It’s shinier, smoother and easier to comb. To describe the products in one word, I’d say “reliable” would be accurate. We have literally relied on these products every morning.
Styling Tips for Kids Hair
While some of these tips work for both boys and girls, I wrote them from my own experience with girls’ hair. If you’ve got one to add, leave us a comment below. We’d love to hear your tips!
1. Learn some easy hairstyles – I’ve always been a messy bun or ponytail girl when I’m in a hurry but little Charlotte is obsessed with princess braids. As I mentioned before, I’m not great at French braids but I’m loving the Fishtail Braid. It looks a little complicated but is really not when you get the hang of it.
2. Get some go-to products – I was clicking around the SoCozy website and found an awesome article on How To Detangle Hair. My daughter has such long hair for a three-year old and it is so darn tangly all the time. The SoCozy Detangling Spray has been our go-to product in the mornings, especially on preschool days (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Another great one to add to your collection would be a styling cream or gel. A styling cream is super helpful for taming flyaways and makes hair easier to braid and curl.
3. Accessories, Accessories, Accessories – Styling products and fishtails braids are great, but when you’re really in a hurry, a headband or hair clip will make a world of a difference, even with a ponytail. We have a ribbon hanging in the girls’ bathroom that is covered in hair clips. They are all very visible and make choosing one less difficult.
