A great choice would be “Exotic Table” by Aliya Leekong. This fantastic cookbook not only has recipes, but each recipe has a little history written by the author about where the recipe came from or where the inspiration for the recipe came from. What I particularly like about Exotic Table is that in the first chapter of the book there is an explanation of spices (telling you what they add to a recipe and why they are used), a description of ingredients that are not used every day and exactly what they are, and also a section on kitchen equipment that you will need for these recipes. It’s good to know ahead of time what kind of pots and pans, bowls and utensils you will need so you are not caught off guard needing something you don’t have!
Exotic Table has it all – from hors d’Oeuvres to soup to main dishes. At first glance, you think that the recipes are too complicated for everyday use, but after getting into the book and reading the easy to follow instructions, they are not hard to make and super easy to follow. Something special that you do not see in other cookbooks is the author has inserted little tips highlighted in pink, such as what to do with leftover ingredients, how to clean your produce effectively, or even family secrets like not over-mixing cake batter. This really adds a personal touch to the recipes and makes you feel like she put a lot of love into this book.
An example of the handy tips with some recipes.
One recipe that my husband was excited to try was the Espresso-Chipotle St. Louis Style Spare Ribs. We had all the simple ingredients in the cupboard, so nothing to run out and purchase except the meat. These ribs turned out incredible and just fell right off the bone! There are so many recipes he’s ready to try now!
Exotic Table is available at Barnes and Noble stores and Amazon right now for $24.29.

I usually google if I'm looking for something specific, or I use my "how to cook everything" app on my phone. but I mostly discover new things by accident, because someone posted a drool worthy photo of a food on facebook or pinterest and I just have to have it!
