DIY: Semi-Homemade Ice Cream Cake (Because we can’t be great at EVERYTHING)

Let’s face it – we can’t be perfect at everything.  Cake decorating is one of those things that I am definitely not good at, so when it comes to decorating a cake for a family party, I let the kids take over.  Heck!  If I decorated the cakes, you’d think the kids did them anyways.

We teamed up with I Love Ice Cream Cakes to share how we take a #SummerCakeBreak.  All opinions are honest and are not influenced by compensation.

DIY Semi-Homemade Ice Cream Cake

I’m not terrible at baking cakes, but I have never actually attempted to make my own ice cream cake.  I leave that to the experts at I Love Ice Cream Cakes!  And I don’t mind driving down to my local grocery store (Save Mart) to easily purchase a pre-made ice cream cake.

We recently celebrating my husband’s birthday, so I let my girls pick anything (yes, anything) they wanted to decorate the cake with from the cake aisle at the grocery store.  They chose rainbow sprinkles, rainbow squiggly candles, and a rainbow ‘Happy Birthday’ banner.

Once we got home, I slid the Oreo Ice Cream Cake out of the box and let them get creative.  The cake turned out to be delicious and oh-so-colorful, and my husband loved it.  Here is the result of that awesome creativity:
