Beaches Negril Review

Negril, Jamaica is home to one of best beaches in the world.  It’s also home to some of the friendliest people in the Caribbean, great nightlife and delicious food.  The second you set foot in this Caribbean paradise, you’ll feel at home.  Just a 90-minute drive from the airport in Montego Bay is one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts – Beaches Negril Resort and Spa.  This laid back, casual, “no worries” resort is located on Negril’s famous 7-mile beach.  If warm water, soft sand, great food and first class service are your jam, read on…

Beaches Negril Resort and Spa Overview

Beaches Negril sits on a lush 20 acres of land along the famous 7-mile beach.  Aside from their casually luxurious (yes, that’s a thing) Caribbean-inspired accommodations, you’ll find 3 gorgeous pools (2 with swim-up bars), the famous Pirates Island Waterpark (complete with swim-up soda bars and waterslides), and 9 restaurants that the entire family will love.  You’ll also have access to numerous water sports and land activities, the Xbox Play Lounge, Scratch DJ Academy, Club Liquid, and so much more.

There’s so much to experience at Beaches Negril that you’ll need a full week to do it all.

Dining at Beaches Negril

Beaches Resorts are famous for their eclectic array of world class-restaurants and Beaches Negril does not fall short of the hype.

You’ll find 9 included eateries stretched across this 20 acre resort:

  • Stewfish
    • Dining on the beach – shoes not required
    • Dress Code: resort casual
    • No reservation required
    • Non-smoking
    • Breakfast: 7:30am – 11am
    • Dinner: 6pm – 9pm

Great for a freshly prepared sit-down breakfast.

  • The Mill
    • Caribbean and international fare served buffet style
    • Dress Code: resort casual
    • No reservation required
    • Breakfast: 7am – 10:15am
    • Lunch: 12:30pm – 2:15pm
    • Dinner: 5:30pm – 9:30pm

One of my favorite places for a quick, light breakfast.  Great for kids.

  • The Venetian
    • A family-friendly Italian restaurant
    • Dress Code: resort evening attire
    • Reservations required
    • Non-smoking
    • Dinner: 6pm – 9pm

I recommend the Italian Kiss cocktail

  • Kimonos Oriental Cuisine
    • Family-friendly Teppanyanki-style cooking
    • Dress Code: resort casual
    • Reservation required
    • Non-smoking
    • Dinner: 5:30pm – 9:30pm

This is a long dining process and I don’t recommend you take children under 5.  Try the cucumber-sake shot.

  • Mariachi
    • Mexican cuisine
    • Dress Code: resort casual
    • No reservation required
    • Non-smoking
    • Grill: 11am – 3pm
    • Dinner: 6pm – 9pm

If you need to quickly feed hungry kids a snack, bypass the hostess and walk up to the nacho bar.  You can take them to-go and enjoy them anywhere in the resort.

  • Bar.B.Q Park
    • Open-air dining with comfort foods, anytime snacks, classic American BBQ and Jamaica favorites.
    • Dress Code: resort casual
    • No reservation required
    • Non-Smoking
    • Open 11am – 3pm (anytime snacks between 3pm – 3am)

This was our go-to restaurant after a late night out.  I recommend the mild jerk chicken and sweet potato salad and go next door to the pool bar and order a dirty banana.

  • Cafe de Paris
    • Parisian-style patisserie with pastries, crepes, specialty coffees and tea.
    • Dress Code: no dress code
    • No reservation required
    • Non-Smoking
    • Open 6:30am – 10:30pm

Try the banana-Nutella crepe any of their specialty coffees.

  • Soy Sushi Bar
    • Traditional and contemporary sushi creations
    • Dress Code: resort casual
    • No reservation required
    • Non-smoking
    • Dinner: 5:30pm – 9:30pm

This was our favorite place to get appetizers before heading out to our reserved dinners.  They serve smaller plates of sushi, so order extras if you’re really hungry.

  • Dinos Pizzeria Italiana
    • Wood-fired oven pizza
    • Dress Code: no dress code
    • No reservation required
    • Non-smoking
    • Lunch: 11am – 5:30pm

Try the Capriociosa

Accommodations at Beaches Negril

Beaches Negril has a ton of different options for accommodations in a variety of price points.  Prices start at around $272 PP/PN for luxury level accommodations, which is the style of room I stayed in.

Room 304 – Negril Premium Family Room

Room #304 was centrally located to beach and shore activities, dining and other resort activities.  We were just a short walk away from the DJ Academy, the BBQ restaurant and the Mexican restaurant, the fitness center, the beach and the beach activities hub.  This room is located on the ground level.

Our room had two queen size beds, a full bathroom with bath, shower and toilet, a large single-sink vanity and a spacious closet.  This is a great option for a family of 3 or 4.  Considering you won’t be spending much time in your room because there is so much to do at Beaches Negril, this is a great budget-friendly room option.

Our room was supplied with my favorite Red Lane Spa hair and body products and plenty of clean towels, wash clothes and hand towels.

What I didn’t like about my room

Everything in this room was just perfect, but the only down side was that we could hear everything going on in the room next door – even if they were speaking quietly.  And if we could hear our neighbors, they could most likely hear us.  Keeping this in mind, we tried to keep our TV down as low as possible to keep from disturbing our neighbors.

Activities

There are a long list of activities for the entire family at Beaches Negril.  I was personally able to try out quite a few of the activities that I didn’t realize I would enjoy.  That’s what Beaches is all about, though – trying new things!  Here are some of my favorite offerings at the resort:

Pirate’s Island Waterpark

Pirate’s Island Waterpark is a fun zone geared towards kids of all ages.  If swim-up soda bars, pools and gigantic waterslides are your jam, this is where you’ll want to hang out.

Land Sports

  • Golf
  • Croquet
  • Basketball
  • Horseshoes
  • Day/Night Tennis
  • Fitness Centers
  • Billiards/Pool Tables
  • Bocce Ball
  • Fitness Programs
  • Shuffleboard
  • Beach Volleyball
  • Table Tennis
  • Cards
  • Dominoes
  • Lawn Chess

Kids Camp at Beaches

Beaches gives kids extra attention with tailor-made fun just for them, offering age-appropriate activities for kids of all ages, from tots to teens. They’re always supervised, and kids vacations are all-included. With a staff that’s so caring, it’ll feel like your kids are in the loving hands of a family member who just wants to spoil them.

Since we didn’t bring our kids to Negril, we weren’t able to test this particular kids camp out, but I was very pleased with the kids camp at Beaches Turks  & Caicos.

XBOX Play Lounge

Xbox One brings together the best exclusive games, the most advanced multiplayer, and your favorite gaming and entertainment apps. Games look and feel incredibly real, with cinematic gameplay that rivals Hollywood. Play exclusive titles like Forza Motorsports 5 and Kinect Sports Rivals. And join your friends to play Just Dance, Madden NFL 14, FIFA 14 and more during your trip.

My sister-in-law and I enjoyed hours of Just Dance during our trip.

Paying the Price for an All Inclusive Resort Vacation

Many of you have asked if I would pay to go back to Beaches Negril, and the answer is yes.  I just priced out a vacation for September for my family of four and here is what I was quoted by Beaches:

The price for a weeklong all-inclusive vacation at Beaches for my family is about the cost of a weeklong cruise.  The only difference is that everything is included with a Beaches vacation, versus with a cruise where you have to pay for gratuities, drinks, etc.

Final Thoughts

My husband and I had a blast at Beaches Negril and would love to take our girls back one day.  The staff was probably the friendliest I’ve ever encountered and they truly went out of their way to make us feel special.I would love to see some improvements with the rooms and I know Beaches has plans to revamp quite a few of their locations.  I love how centrally located our room was to the activities we were interested in, too.
