Exergen Smart Glow TemporalScanner Review + Giveaway

The easiest way to take your child’s temperature!

The kids are back to school which means they will bringing the seasonal illnesses home.  Fun, fun!

I received this product free of charge.  Any opinion expressed is based on my experience with the product and is not influenced by compensation.  Regardless of compensation, I only feature products that I like.

Taking a child’s temperature can be a daunting task, especially when they’re an infant.  Big sissy tends to spread everything she gets to little sissy, including the fevers.  The Exergen Smart Glow TemporalScanner has been a household staple for us and I’m excited to give one of you the opportunity to try it out, too.  But first, check out this Exergen virtual classroom video:

Using the Exergen Smart Glow TemporalScanner is really easy.  Just like the video states, “think ‘t’ and cross the t.  I always take more than one reading, waiting about 3 minutes between each swipe, with each family member to be sure that I’ve done it correctly.  Once I’ve gotten two of the same readings, I use that as the correct temperature.
There are so many times as a parent when I wished I could just take an instant temperature reading that was accurate.  I literally keep the Exergen thermometer on the kitchen counter so it’s always within reach.  We’ve used it more than I thought we would and have even been using it for mommy and daddy, too.  It’s seriously such a great product.
The price point for this thermometer is so nice, too.  $49.99 is appropriate and affordable for most households, in my opinion.  It’s also a great item to add to your baby registry.  You can pick one up at some of my favorite stores like Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Costco, Babies “R” Us and Toys “R” Us.  You can also find them at Kroger and BJ’s or at www.exergensmartglowthermometer.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does the TemporalScanner™ measure?
A: With a gentle stroke of the forehead it captures the naturally emitted heat from the skin over the temporal artery, taking 1,000 readings per second, selecting the most accurate. With its patented Arterial Heat Balance system, the TemporalScanner measures ambient temperatures, mathematically replaces the small temperature loss from cooling at the skin, and displays an accurate arterial temperature.
Q: What is arterial temperature?
A: Arterial temperature is the same temperature as the blood flowing from the heart. It is the best determinate of body temperature.
Q: Why is it more accurate than ear temperature?
A: A major reason ear thermometers are considered inaccurate by medical professionals is because the positioning of the probe in the ear canal is inconsistent, thus creating inconsistent readings and frequently missing fevers. The temporal artery thermometer scans the forehead area for the temporal artery and it is almost impossible to miss the artery during a scan. Furthermore, the TemporalScanner™ has been proven more accurate than ear thermometers by a Harvard Medical School study.
Q: Normally, how does arterial temperature compare to other methods of temperature?
A: Arterial temperature is the same temperature as the blood flowing from the heart. It is the best determinate of body temperature.
Q: Why am I getting inconsistent results?

A: The user should normally be getting stable results, or results within a few tenths of a degree of each other. However, a few things to know:
  • Multiple temperatures taken over the same area in rapid succession will ultimately cool the area causing differences.
  • If sweating, the temperature on the neck behind the ear lobe becomes the overriding temperature, and since this area is not quite as stable as the temporal artery, it can easily be cooled by the thermometer in taking multiple readings. Remember, the probe of thermometer will be at room temperature, and is about 30 degrees Fahrenheit (17 degrees Celsius) cooler than body temperature.

Q: I heard the thermometer is sensitive to ambient temperature, is it?
A: Yes, it is sensitive to ambient temperature, which is part of the reason it is so accurate.
