The Truth About The Moringa Leaf

It can get overwhelming to jump on all of these “superfood bandwagons,” don’t you think?  Every time I watch Dr. Oz I’m sucked into some new superfood craze along with the rest of his viewers.  I was recently reading an article on the Dr. Oz website that talked about five ways to re-energize your day and I couldn’t help but get stuck on #2, Moringa Oleifera.
The leaves of the moringa oleifera tree, native to the Himalayan mountains in northwestern India, are extremely nutrient-dense.  They contain three times more iron than spinach and are loaded with tons of other vitamins including vitamin C, vitamin A, calcium and potassium, as well as powerful antioxidants.
After doing more research into the moringa oleifera tree and it’s benefits, I learned that it’s important to stay away from the root, bark and flower of the tree as they are potentially toxic (webmd).  That scared me, I’m not going to lie.  I went on to research prices and brands to see how I could get my hands on the powder, which is made up of the moringa leaves only.

I discovered the Green Virgin Products website which sells green cleaning products, personal products and moringa products, like pure leaf powder.  What’s different about their moringa leaf powder is the packaging.  The oxidization process kill the nutrients in the product and Green Virgin Products takes care to remove the air out of the pack before sealing it and store the product in a triple-layered packed so the product isn’t exposed to light.  They also place an oxygen-absorbing paper into the bag which helps keep oxygen away from the powder after opening it.

You can purchase a 150 gram pouch of Moringa Ultimate Original Powder for $13.98 on the Green Virgin website.  They also sell super-fine moringa powder and ultra-fine moringa powder.  The Original powder is great for smoothies and tastes a little like spinach.  Here’s a simple, tasty moringa smoothie recipe for you to try:

If you’re looking for an easy way to add some extra nutrients to your diet, moringa powder just might be the solution.  Remember to talk with your doctor before beginning any new diet regimen.
